and is the easternmost town on the South Shore
of Long Island

, the CDP had a total population of 19,719.
The town includes the village
of East Hampton
, as well as four official hamlets
of Montauk
, Amagansett
, Wainscott
and Springs
. East Hampton, especially estates south of the highway and in the underdeveloped hamlet of Springs, boasts some of the most expensive residential real estate
in the United States.

The median age was 52 years. For every 100 females there were 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.6 males.
